I joined Steve and Jake Maxey on The Impactful Engineer to talk about how engineers and other technical professionals can take a more intentional approach to career growth. We explored my three stages of development, Practice, Perform, and Pioneer, along with the RISERS framework for understanding the relationships, skills, results, and systems that help people continue to grow throughout their careers.
We also discussed the important role managers play in that growth. Career development isn’t simply about earning the next promotion. It’s about continuing to make progress, taking on new challenges, and aligning an employee’s development with meaningful business results. For managers and organizations, creating those opportunities can be an important part of developing and retaining great people.
